Wisconsin 2012

Deb flew into Chicago on Friday evening and Saturday we drove north to Door County, Wisconsin.  It was a day of lighthouses.  We stopped many times all the way up the west side of Lake Michigan.  First was Waukegan Harbor Light in Waukegan, Illinois.  Bob walked most of the way out but it was raining and looked too threatening so Deb and I only walked partway. 

There were two lighthouses in Kenosha, the North Pier Light and the Old Lighthouse or Southport which is on Simmons Island at the City of Kenosha.

   In Racine, Wisconsin we saw three lighthouses.  First were the Racine North and South Breakwater Lights.

 Then we found Wind Point Lighthouse which sits on a bluff in the village of Wind point north of Racine. 

 Next were three lights in Milwaukee – Milwaukee Breakwater Lighthouse, Milwaukee Pierhead Light and North Point Light.  We walked to the Pierhead Light and could see the Breakwater Lighthouse in the background.

   North Point Light Station was up a hill and we finally found it.  That was the end of the lighthouses for one day and we continued on to the resort in Door County.

We spent a great week exploring Door County.  We went to more lighthouses during the week on both sides of the peninsula.

The long walk back!!!

It was very windy.

At the Port Washington Breakwater Light we just had to take a quick picture.  There was a pirates festival going on and there were no parking places to be found.

We were able to actually see the ship canal in Sturgeon Bay.

Other than lighthouses, we toured a couple of wineries, stopped at roadside markets, explored some shops in Fish Creek, and walked about every morning.  Debby really liked the sturgeon statutes along the streets in Sturgeon Bay.

We spent part of a day in Peninsula State Park.  Deb & I climbed the tower. 

 We went to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum and got to tour a submarine like those that were built in Manitowoc. 

  We had a very special dinner for our 44^th anniversary.  

When we left Wisconsin we spent one night with Ron & Cindy and the girls before taking Deb to the airport and Bob & I driving on home to Warren.
